No-one reads this blog yet but fear not dear reader, the hooded birder isn't dead, his computer merely needed a new hard drive! Posts soon!

  1. Well that's where you're wrong, because I've read it. And I do own (despite being 46) a hooded fleece type garment, which I recently bought to wear in Shetland this October, due to the fact that we're heading to the far frozen north (Unst) this year, and it will no doubt be fucking freezing. On the whole though, I have to say I'm not a massive fan of hoods as they greatly reduce your ability to hear birds. Which is important. A woolly hat is my preferred cold weather head covering, unless it's absolutely pissing it down in which case the hood on my coat goes up. And then I usually give up and head for the nearest cup of tea.

Plus of course in the current media-induced climate of fear, the hoodie-wearing birder has to be careful not to get mistaken for a looter!

  2. Yes, the downside of hoods is the tendency to hear absolutely nothing or the tendency to wrongly believe everything you are hearing is coming from straight ahead.... but thats a mere hinderence compared to the downright shame of wearing a coat. Now, if you'll excuse me im off out, hooded birder needs some new nike air max and an Ipad.

  3. I spent a large amount of money on my coat, so I'm fucked if I'm going to get cold and soaked by wearing just a hoodie. I'm too old for that!

  5. They've already invented a waterproof hoodie. It's called a coat.
